Job summary

ABB is seeking a senior electrical engineering professional to shape UNITROL 8000 system architecture and validation in Switzerland. You will lead cross-functional technical activities across development, testing, and lifecycle, acting as a Level 4 expert for complex issues and converting lessons into actionable architecture decisions.

The role requires a Master’s in Electrical Engineering or related field, extensive experience with excitation systems, and knowledge of converter technology

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Energy Systems, Power Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
• Extensive experience with excitation systems, including system architecture, application engineering, commissioning, and technical leadership of complex industrial power-electronic products.
• Strong knowledge of thyristor and IGBT converter systems, including system integration, protection, electrical safety, thermal behavior, and grid compliance.
• Hands-on experience in verification and validation, system and type testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis in power laboratories and at customer sites.
• Good understanding of relevant international standards and qualification requirements, including EMC, insulation, partial discharge, temperature-rise testing, IEC 62477 safety requirements, and arc-safety aspects.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary technical projects and collaborate across global teams, with strong understanding of customer applications and industry trends.
• Experience with power-system simulation and engineering tools is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain product and system requirements, UNITROL 8000 system architecture, interfaces and technical specifications.
• Own system compliance and validation strategies, coordinating testing in internal/external labs.
• Lead cross-functional technical activities across development, system integration, validation, and lifecycle.
• Act as Level 4 technical expert for complex product issues and translate lessons learned into requirements and architecture decisions.
