Lonza Group Ltd. in Basel-Stücki, Switzerland, seeks a Senior Laboratory Scientist for Phys-Chemical QC.

This fully site-based role demands hands-on testing and strict adherence to cGMP in a biologics/large molecule environment, with close collaboration across teams. You will perform routine physico-chemical analyses (U/HPLC, CE-SDS, icIEF, protein content), maintain instruments, support investigations, and drive process improvements.

• Experience with lab equipment maintenance/IRP knowledge

• Perform routine physico-chemical testing such as U/HPLC, SEC, IEX, RP, icIEF, protein content, and compendial methods for biologics/large molecules and small molecules in QC
• Execute, review and approve basic lab tasks (e.g., mobile phase prep, pH meter calibration)
• Assist investigations and troubleshoot lab equipment issues with proactive mitigation
• Ensure lab cleanliness and 6S/Inventory management to cGMP standards and support audits
• Oversee maintenance and requalification of lab equipment as Instrument Responsible Person (IRP)
• Participate in lab optimization and process improvement initiatives

For our successful and growing Drug Product focused branch located in Basel and Stein, Switzerland, we have exciting opportunities. What you will do:

• Independently complete routine physico-chemical testing such as U/HPLC (SEC, IEX, RP, surfactant), CE-SDS, icIEF, protein content, and compendial methods (pH, color, clarity, subvisible particles, etc.) for biologics/large molecules, related entities and small molecules in QC under cGMP following applicable SOPs and Good Documentation Practices (GDocP) in a right-first-time and timely manner.
• Executes/reviews/approves basic operational tasks in the lab (e.g. mobile phase preparations, calibration of pH meter, balance)
• Assists in investigation/troubleshooting lab equipment issues by proactively driving the investigation and proposing mitigation measures
• Ensures lab clean/maintenance (inventory/consumables management process, 6S) to cGMP standards for audit readiness and supports onsite customer/regulatory audits
• Oversees maintenance/requalification of lab equipment (Group A, B and C) as Instrument Responsible Person (IRP) and supports draft/update of instrument SOPs
• Participates and initiates as member in laboratory operational optimization and process improvement initiatives
• Trainer to conduct and review compendial/non-purity methods and purity/identity/content methods in the laboratory
• Onboarding of new Scientist/Senior Scientist

What we are looking for:

• Training on the job as a lab technician (EFZ, HF, CTA, BTA, PTA or BSc./MSc.)
• Minimum 5 years of working experience in a research/ technical role in the pharmaceutical, biotech or chemical industry, in analytical testing
• Proven working experience in a cGMP regulated environment in phys-chem analytics strongly desired with experience in accurately reporting, interpretation and documentation of scientific results following ALCOA++ GDocP principles
• Experience with laboratory specific software (e.g. Empower, Electronic Laboratory Journal, LIMS-system) is advantageous
• Good communication and ability to work independently in a team, proactive and dedicated attitude
• Good knowledge of written and spoken English. Any other languages are a plus
