Lonza invites applications for the Senior Scientist Physico-Chemical Quality Control based in Basel. This site-based role supports timely and precise QC testing in a biologics and small-molecule environment, with relocation assistance available if needed.

The successful candidate has at least five years in analytical pharma/biotech roles, solid cGMP experience, and proficiency with QC instrumentation and software. Relocation and comprehensive compensation are part of the package.

Qualifikationen

• Minimum 5 years in a research/technical role in pharma/biotech/chemical industries with analytical testing.
• Proven experience in a cGMP regulated environment and ALCOA++/GDocP documentation.
• Experience with lab software (Empower, ELJ, LIMS) is advantageous.

• Independently perform routine physico-chemical tests (e.g., U/HPLC, CE-SDS, icIEF, protein content) for biologics/large molecules and small molecules under cGMP.
• Execute, review, and approve basic lab tasks (mobile phase prep, pH meter calibration, balances).
• Investigate and troubleshoot equipment issues, proposing mitigation actions.

For our successful and growing Drug Product focused branch located in Basel and Stein, Switzerland, we have exciting opportunities. What you will do:

• Independently complete routine physico-chemical testing such as U/HPLC (SEC, IEX, RP, surfactant), CE-SDS, icIEF, protein content, and compendial methods (pH, color, clarity, subvisible particles, etc.) for biologics/large molecules, related entities and small molecules in QC under cGMP following applicable SOPs and Good Documentation Practices (GDocP) in a right-first-time and timely manner.


• Executes/reviews/approves basic operational tasks in the lab (e.g. mobile phase preparations, calibration of pH meter, balance)


• Assists in investigation/troubleshooting lab equipment issues by proactively driving the investigation and proposing mitigation measures


• Ensures lab clean/maintenance (inventory/consumables management process, 6S) to cGMP standards for audit readiness and supports onsite customer/regulatory audits


• Oversees maintenance/requalification of lab equipment (Group A, B and C) as Instrument Responsible Person (IRP) and supports draft/update of instrument SOPs


• Participates and initiates as member in laboratory operational optimization and process improvement initiatives


• Trainer to conduct and review compendial/non-purity methods and purity/identity/content methods in the laboratory


• Onboarding of new Scientist/Senior Scientist

What we are looking for:

• Training on the job as a lab technician (EFZ, HF, CTA, BTA, PTA or BSc./MSc.)


• Minimum 5 years of working experience in a research/ technical role in the pharmaceutical, biotech or chemical industry, in analytical testing


• Proven working experience in a cGMP regulated environment in phys-chem analytics strongly desired with experience in accurately reporting, interpretation and documentation of scientific results following ALCOA++ GDocP principles


• Experience with laboratory specific software (e.g. Empower, Electronic Laboratory Journal, LIMS-system) is advantageous


• Good communication and ability to work independently in a team, proactive and dedicated attitude


• Good knowledge of written and spoken English. Any other languages are a plus
