Job summary

Swiss Re in Switzerland is seeking a Senior Property Treaty Underwriter to work at the heart of our UKI & London Market property reinsurance portfolio. You will evaluate risk, drive decisions, and shape the portfolio while building strong client and broker relationships.

You will underwrite new and renewal business, review submissions, analyse data, and negotiate premiums. A team of seven underwriters collaborates across London and Zurich to deliver integrated outcomes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Property Reinsurance, with a demonstrable track record of underwriting treaty business.
• Deep understanding of the UK and Ireland Property insurance and reinsurance markets, including market dynamics and regulatory context.
• Proficient knowledge of (re)insurance contract wordings, with the ability to interpret, negotiate, and apply them effectively.
• Strong analytical capability, with experience using data — including loss history, exposure data, and financial statements — to drive underwriting decisions.
• Proven ability to build and maintain valuable relationships with external partners, brokers, and clients.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal Property treaty business within the UKI & London Market portfolio, ensuring decisions align with guidelines and appetite.
• Review reinsurance submissions and documentation to determine eligibility, assess risk factors, and evaluate overall portfolio fit.
• Analyse underwriting data using Swiss Re's tools — including loss history, exposure data, financial statements, and market trends — to make bind or decline decisions.
• Calculate and negotiate appropriate premiums based on thorough risk assessment, balancing competitiveness with portfolio sustainability.
• Build and manage relationships with clients and brokers, serving as a trusted contact in the market.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Client Management, Claims & Reserving, Solutions, and Transactions teams to deliver client-focused outcomes.
• Contribute to portfolio steering and appetite refinement to maintain a sustainable book of business.
