We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead technically demanding projects in an industrial combustion environment. The assignment focuses on waste-incineration systems – particularly rotary kilns for solid and liquid waste – and their integration with flue-gas treatment, heat recovery and steam systems.
You will connect engineering, operations, HSE, suppliers and contractors, translating complex technical requirements into safe, compliant and operable plant solutions from early concept through commissioning and handover.
Key responsibilities
- Lead projects across feasibility, concept and basic design, tendering, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
- Define the technical scope, execution strategy, schedule, interfaces, risks, quality requirements and project controls.
- Coordinate process, mechanical, piping, civil, electrical, instrumentation and automation disciplines across internal and external teams.
- Steer the engineering and integration of combustion systems, including rotary kilns, burners, refractory systems, combustion-air supply, waste feeding and ash handling.
- Ensure robust integration of flue-gas cleaning, emissions monitoring, heat recovery, boilers and water-steam-cycle equipment.
- Manage engineering partners, equipment suppliers and contractors, including technical bid evaluation, design reviews, FAT/SAT activities and site execution.
- Drive HAZOPs, technical risk assessments, change control, permitting interfaces and compliance with applicable safety and environmental requirements.
- Prepare clear decision papers and progress reporting, **escalate** critical issues early and maintain alignment with operations and senior stakeholders.
Your profile
- Degree in process, mechanical, energy, chemical or environmental engineering, or a comparable technical qualification.
- Substantial experience leading complex industrial plant-engineering projects, ideally in waste treatment, Energy-from-Waste, chemical production or another high-hazard process environment.
- Demonstrated technical understanding of combustion systems and thermal processes; direct exposure to rotary-kiln technology is strongly preferred.
- Experience with the incineration or thermal treatment of solid and liquid waste streams.
- Sound knowledge of at least several adjacent systems such as flue-gas cleaning, boilers, water-steam cycles, heat transfer, thermal-energy recovery and emissions control.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage interfaces between engineering, site execution, commissioning and plant operations.
- Structured, decisive and safety-conscious working style, with strong stakeholder communication and practical problem-solving skills.
- Professional fluency in German and English.
Particularly valuable experience
- Brownfield modifications or plant upgrades performed alongside ongoing operations.
- Commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting or performance optimisation of industrial combustion plants.
- EPC or EPCM project delivery, technical tendering and supplier management.
- Projects in Switzerland or familiarity with Swiss industrial, safety and environmental requirements.
What success looks like
- A clear, technically sound project scope with well-managed interfaces and risks.
- Safe execution with strong alignment between engineering, operations and external partners.
- Reliable progress against agreed quality, schedule and cost objectives.
- A compliant, maintainable and operable solution that is successfully commissioned and handed over.
Why join this project
This is a high-impact, long-term assignment in a technically sophisticated industrial environment. You will have meaningful ownership, work with experienced specialists and shape solutions that are central to safe and sustainable plant operation.
