Job summary

Darwin Recruitment is seeking a Senior PIC Design Engineer in Lausanne, Switzerland. The role leads design, simulation and development of photonic integrated circuits from concept through tape-out and validation.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team at the frontier of integrated photonics and optical interconnects, using tools like Lumerical, COMSOL and RSoft. A MSc/PhD and 5+ years in PIC design are required.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Photonics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics or related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, simulation and optimisation of photonic integrated circuits and optical components.
• Develop and model waveguides, resonators, couplers, filters and other integrated photonic structures.
• Use photonic simulation tools such as Ansys Lumerical, COMSOL, RSoft or equivalent.
• Manage PIC layout, design-rule checks, tape-out and collaboration with external foundries.
• Characterise fabricated devices and correlate experimental results with simulation models.
• Troubleshoot performance issues and optimise designs for efficiency, reliability and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across photonics, laser physics, packaging and testing.
• Contribute to design reviews, technical documentation and continuous improvement of PIC development processes.
