Senior PCB Layout Engineer - High-Density RF

Job summary

Viasat is seeking a Layout Engineer to strengthen our Lausanne Hardware team. You will design and lay out complex PCBs, ensuring SI/PI, thermal, EMI/EMC, and manufacturability requirements are met throughout the product lifecycle.

You will collaborate with electrical, RF, and mechanical engineers, support prototype bring-up and testing, and contribute to design documentation and supplier coordination. A strong background in high-density PCBs and HDI is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of PCB layout experience in complex products.
• Strong schematic capture and PCB layout implementation.
• Experience with multilayer PCBs, HDI, blind/buried vias, advanced stack-ups.
• Knowledge of analog, digital, power, mixed-signal design requirements.
• Proficiency with Altium Designer and Siemens Xpedition/PADS.
• Experience managing PCB libraries, design rules, and layout processes.
• Knowledge of DFM, DFA, and PCB manufacturing technologies.
• Familiarity with scripting, automation, and AI-assisted engineering tools.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own the PCB layout development cycle from concept through production release.
• Design high-density, high-speed, mixed-signal, RF, and power PCBs for advanced systems.
• Create and maintain footprints, symbols, and library components.
• Define stack-ups and routing strategies considering SI/PI, EMC/EMI, thermal, and manufacturability.
• Perform constraint-driven PCB layout using ECAD tools.
• Collaborate with electrical, RF, and mechanical engineers to optimize performance.
• Support prototype bring-up, debugging, testing, and design verification.
• Coordinate with PCB manufacturers and assembly suppliers for fabrication and assembly.
• Create and maintain design docs, manufacturing files and release packages.
• Contribute to design processes, rules, libraries, and continuous improvement.
• Explore automation and AI-based tools to improve design efficiency and quality.
