Job summary

The BIS - Bank for International Settlements is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Architect to lead end-to-end infrastructure design for complex, multi-domain initiatives.

This role combines technical leadership with governance, driving secure, scalable architectures across on‑premises, private and public clouds, including AI infrastructure considerations and integration with container platforms like OpenShift.

Qualifications

• Hybrid infrastructure design for on-prem, private and public cloud environments.
• Scalable, resilient and secure infra architecture aligned to technology strategy.
• Cloud-native and container platforms, including OpenShift, with container/VM integration.
• Infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code governance.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, assess risks, and total cost of ownership for decisions.
• Understand business context to document current state and architecture outcomes.
• Automate compliance tasks and generate audit-ready reports.
• Design and integrate complex infrastructures ensuring interoperability and alignment with standards.
• Translate stakeholder needs into architecture principles, guardrails and prioritized backlogs.
• Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior management.
• Experience designing infra for AI use cases and emerging tech.
• Banking/financial services infra experience – nice to have

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end infrastructure architecture for multi-domain initiatives (compute, storage, networks, cloud, AI).
• Review and approve designs for non-functional requirements and coherence across platforms.
• Create and maintain policies, standards, reference architectures and roadmaps.
• Engage governance forums and promote standard adoption and continuous improvement.
• Lead with senior stakeholders to align design with priorities, risk appetite, and SLAs/RPOs/RTOs.
• Translate requirements into architectural principles, guardrails and backlogs.
• Define secure-by-design and resilience patterns and validate DR/backups.
• Partner with security, risk and audit to evidence policy alignment.
• Provide design authority across delivery teams and resolve cross-team issues.
• Steer non-functional testing strategies and readiness for go-live.
• Lead evaluation of technologies, vendor roadmaps and open standards.
• Drive simplification via standardisation and decommissioning while embedding maintainability.
• Maintain visibility of platform costs and forecast spend.
• Develop capabilities through training and external accreditation.
• Maintain knowledge of technology, regulation and best practices.
