Job summary

C5I, based in Bern, is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to design, build and operate secure, open-source groupware and collaboration services. You will manage Linux infrastructure, on‑prem private cloud, and identity services, while automating provisioning with Terraform and Ansible.

The role includes CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes deployments and ongoing reliability improvements. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's in CS/IT or equivalent, strong Linux experience, Docker/Kubernetes

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong hands-on Linux and open-source infra experience.
• Experience with self-hosted email/groupware or collaboration platforms.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, IMAP, HTTP and TLS.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of automation, CI/CD and scripting tools like Terraform, Ansible, Bash.

• Operate databases, storage, monitoring, backup and recovery; resolve issues.
• Continuously improve reliability, security and automation.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and operate secure, open-source groupware and collaboration services, including email, file sharing, messaging and document editing
• Build and maintain Linux-based infrastructure and containerized applications in an on-premise private cloud
• Integrate and manage identity and authentication services such as LDAP and OIDC
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using tools such as Terraform and Ansible
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deploy applications in Kubernetes environments
• Operate supporting services such as databases, storage, monitoring, backup and recovery
• Analyze and resolve technical issues across infrastructure, networks and applications
• Continuously improve service reliability, security and automation

What you should bring with you

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent practical experience
• Strong hands‑on experience with Linux systems and open‑source infrastructure
• Experience with self‑hosted email, groupware or collaboration platforms
• understanding of networking and communication protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, IMAP, HTTP and TLS
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Knowledge of automation, CI/CD and scripting tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Bash
• Familiarity with identity management and directory services such as LDAP, OIDC or SAML is an advantage
• Analytical mindset, structured way of working and strong problem‑solving skills
• Swiss citizenship required
