Our client is a global market leader in high-strength, carbon-fibre reinforced implants for spinal surgery. Since being founded in 2000, they have grown into the world's leading name in carbon-fibre spinal implants, with a particular focus on the treatment of spinal tumour conditions.

They are now looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join their product development team on a permanent, on-site basis in Altstätten. This is a genuinely hands-on role, with 80–100% of your time spent on CAD-based design work.

The Role

• Design and development of surgical instruments and spinal implants, from initial concept through to clinical application, in line with regulatory requirements
• Creation of CAD models and prototypes, and completion of tolerance and risk analyses
• Application of creative problem-solving and rapid prototyping techniques to develop innovative products
• Planning, execution, and documentation of design verification and validation testing
• Preparation and maintenance of development documentation (risk analyses, test reports, specifications) for the Design History File

What You'll Bring

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in the development of orthopaedic instruments and/or implants - candidates from adjacent precision engineering backgrounds (e.g. watchmaking/microtechnology, robotics, optical instruments, tooling) with strong hands-on CAD, materials, and manufacturing experience will also be considered
• Confident use of CAD systems, ideally Siemens NX, along with experience writing technical reports and documentation to support regulatory approval of medical devices (FDA, CE, etc.)
• A hands-on, self-driven, and creative approach, someone who enjoys translating clinical needs into market-ready solutions
• Strong German and/or English language skills, and a genuine enjoyment of working within a multidisciplinary team
