Camptocamp, a Swiss open-source focused service company, seeks a Senior Backend & Cloud Engineer to blend software architecture with cloud infrastructure excellence. You will design high-performance backends and drive IaC and GitOps on AWS and Kubernetes, collaborating across DevOps teams.

Expect 5+ years in backend roles, strong Python/Go, and expertise in AWS, Terraform/OpenTofu, and CI/CD. 50% home office in a hybrid model with Swiss offices.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical qualification.
• Minimum 5 years in Backend engineering with a strong Cloud & Infra component.
• Proficiency in Python/FastAPI or Go, microservices, REST/gRPC, and databases.
• Strong AWS knowledge and Kubernetes expertise.
• IaC & GitOps with Terraform/OpenTofu, ArgoCD or Flux.
• DevOps mindset with CI/CD and observability tooling.
• Fluent in French and English; German essential for Swiss-German collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable REST/gRPC APIs and microservices.
• Model data and optimize PostgreSQL; ensure data quality and performance.
• Automate Cloud infrastructure end-to-end using IaC (Terraform/OpenTofu).
• Manage Kubernetes deployments (EKS) and implement GitOps pipelines.
• Own CI/CD pipelines and observability stacks, ensuring reliability.

The Camptocamp Infrastructure Department is looking for a Senior Backend & Cloud Engineer passionate about software architecture, infrastructure automation, and continuous deployment.

In this key hybrid role with high added value, you will combine deep expertise in Backend development with proven mastery of Cloud environments. You will design and develop high-performance backend services while driving modern Cloud infrastructure on Amazon AWS using rigorous engineering practices based on Infrastructure as Code (IaC with Terraform/OpenTofu) and GitOps principles on Kubernetes.

Your Day as a Senior Backend & Cloud Engineer

Your responsibilities will cover the following key areas:

Backend Engineering & Architecture:

• Designing, developing, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure REST / gRPC APIs and microservices (Python/FastAPI, Go).


• Data modeling and relational database optimization (PostgreSQL).


• Ensuring code quality through automated testing strategies (unit, integration, end-to-end).

Cloud, Infrastructure as Code & GitOps:

• Architecting, deploying, and managing Cloud infrastructure on Amazon Web Services (AWS: EC2, EKS, S3, RDS, IAM, Lambda, Networking).


• Automating Cloud infrastructure end-to-end using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, OpenTofu).


• Container orchestration using Kubernetes (EKS) and implementing Continuous Deployment workflows based on GitOps principles (ArgoCD / Flux).


• Designing and optimizing automated CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).


• Managing observability (monitoring, metrics, logs, tracing with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Elastic) and maintaining high availability.

Your profile

Your essential skills for success in this role

• Education: Degree in Computer Science (EPFL/HES Engineer, Master's degree) or equivalent practical qualification.


• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in a Backend Engineering role with a strong Cloud & Infrastructure component.


• Backend Engineering: Proficiency in modern languages (Python/FastAPI, Go), microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, SQL/NoSQL, and Clean Code (Essential).


• Cloud Infrastructure: Proven operational experience on Amazon AWS (Essential).


• IaC & GitOps: Solid practical experience with Terraform/OpenTofu (module design, state management), Kubernetes, and GitOps tools such as ArgoCD or Flux (Essential).


• DevOps & CI/CD: Strong knowledge of containerization (Docker), CI/CD pipelines, and observability stacks.


• Languages: Good command of French and technical English. A good working knowledge or proficiency in German is essential to collaborate effectively with Swiss-German teams and clients.
