The University of Bern invites applications for an SEM lab-manager with teaching responsibilities in the Structural Geology/Tectonics group. The position is 100% and fixed for three years, located in Bern, with a start date negotiable.

The role includes research and teaching duties, project funding, and collaboration across institutes. Applicants should hold a PhD in Earth Sciences or related field and have extensive experience with SEM and related techniques (EDS, EBSD, CL).

Qualifikationen

• PhD in Earth Sciences or related discipline.
• Profound theoretical background and practical use of scanning electron microscopy (EDS/EBSD/CL)
• Teaching experience.
• Ability to collaborate with SEM users and technicians across disciplines.
• Innovative research proposal.

Aufgaben

• Teach theory of microbeam analysis and practical SEM training at MSc/PhD level.
• Support SEM users in high-res imaging, EBSD, and signal mapping.
• Maintain SEM facility and liaise with technicians for major issues.
• Conduct own research projects and secure project funding from agencies and industry.
• Strong background in Structural Geology/Tectonics for related teaching and research activities.
