Description

The Upstream Scientist in the Bioplant Process Sciences (BPS) department at Yverdon-les-Bains provides upstream expertise to both BPS and the Bioplant. This role supports technology transfers, upstream process development, and the implementation of small-scale models for new recombinant products. The Upstream Scientist also conducts BPS investigations and troubleshooting, leads upstream projects, and contributes expertise in small-scale cell culture bioreactors and related cell monitoring methods. In addition, the role supports raw material procurement for studies and is responsible for process implementation protocols, statistical analysis of results, and study reports within BPS. The Upstream Scientist shares technical knowledge with both BPS and Bioplant teams.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the preparation of cell culture study protocols and reports for small-scale implementation of new processes, facility-fit assessments, and other BPS studies. Support the preparation or review of similar purification protocols and reports.
• Lead the experimental design of BPS upstream studies and support purification study design as needed.
• Lead Bioplant upstream investigations and experimental design of BPS studies.
• Support procurement of raw materials needed to implement new laboratory processes or studies.
• Lead the experimental results analysis and ensure data integrity of BPS laboratory data.
• Is the upstream SME during technology transfer upstream meetings for new products at the Bioplant site.
• Contribute to BPS projects, including documentation, supplier coordination, and implementation of an electronic laboratory notebook system.
• Share cell culture and upstream equipment expertise with BPS laboratory colleagues.
• Contribute to drafting SOPs and other Bioplant Process Sciences laboratory documents.
• Participate in the qualification and commissioning of new laboratory equipment, including monitoring, URS, protocols, and reports.
• Support laboratory organization, external shipments, and ordering activities.
• Interact and collaborate with on-site partner departments as well as Process Sciences and Analytical Sciences teams in the United States.
• Promote a strong culture of integrity and business ethics.
• Act in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as company guidelines.

REQUIREMENT

• Master’s degree from EPF or University in cell culture, biotechnology, or a related field, with demonstrated biotechnology experience. A PhD in Biotechnology will also be considered.
• Minimum of five years of biotechnology experience, preferably in a small-scale process development laboratory.
• Experience with cell culture bioreactors is required; experience in protein purification and/or analytics is an advantage.
• Ability to work effectively in a highly regulated environment.
• Fluency in French and English.
• Strong Team-Oriented Mindset.
