Zusammenfassung

Tethys Robotics, based in Zurich, seeks a hands-on Maintenance & Repair Technician to keep underwater robotic systems in peak condition for both our team and clients. You will perform scheduled maintenance, diagnose faults, and conduct in-water tests while collaborating closely with the engineering group to drive product improvements.

Ideal candidates have a technical education in electronics/mechatronics and strong English/German communication, plus willingness to travel to client sites.

Qualifikationen

• Completed technical education in electronics, mechatronics, automation, mechanical engineering, or a comparable field.
• Hands-on experience in maintenance, repair, or production of electromechanical or robotic systems.
• Organized, detail-oriented and reliable in tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance records.
• Fluent in English and German; driver’s license mandatory.

Aufgaben

• Perform scheduled and corrective maintenance on underwater robotic systems after tests and deployments, including client-owned systems.
• Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical, electrical, and firmware subsystems.
• Conduct in-water functional testing, calibration, and validation after maintenance or repair.
• Document maintenance activities and repair outcomes per quality and safety standards.
• Manage spare parts inventory and coordinate replenishment.
• Prepare and pack systems for shipment following maintenance cycles.
• Collaborate with engineering to identify failure patterns and drive improvements.
• Perform end-of-production in-water tests and support assembly during peaks.
• Travel to customer locations occasionally for on-site maintenance.

Tethys Robotics develops innovative underwater robotic solutions for inspection and investigation operations in challenging conditions. We serve clients such as large asset operators and industrial service providers operating in high-demand sectors including maritime security, demining (UXO, MCM), and search & rescue but also offshore wind, oil and gas.

As an ETH Zürich Spin-Off, we are a fast-growing pioneer in the underwater robotics industry - made in Switzerland. We’re looking for a skilled and hands-on maintenance and repair professional to help keep our robotic systems in peak condition.

Tasks

As a Maintenance & Repair Technician at Tethys Robotics, you are responsible for keeping the underwater robotic systems of us and our clients in reliable, field-ready conditions. You perform scheduled and corrective maintenance in our office and at customer location, diagnose faults at system and component level, and carry out repairs on mechanical structures, electrical assemblies, and embedded electronics. You document all maintenance activities and repair outcomes in compliance with our quality and safety standards, and collaborate closely with the engineering team to feed technical findings back into product development and process improvements.

• Perform scheduled and corrective maintenance on underwater robotic systems after tests, demonstrations, and operational deployments including both company-owned equipment and client-owned systems
• Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical, electrical, and firmware-related subsystems
• Conduct in-water functional testing, calibration, and validation after maintenance or repair to confirm full system readiness
• Document all maintenance activities, fault findings, and repair outcomes accurately and in line with quality and safety standards
• Manage spare parts inventory: track stock levels, identify replenishment needs, and coordinate parts procurement
• Prepare and pack systems for shipment following maintenance or repair cycles
• Collaborate with the engineering team to identify recurring failure patterns and contribute to design or process improvements
• Perform end of production in-water tests
• Support assembly and integration tasks during production peaks as required

Requirements

• Completed technical education in electronics, mechatronics, automation, mechanical engineering, or a comparable field
• Hands-on experience in maintenance, repair, or production of electromechanical or robotic systems
• Solid understanding of electrical systems, wiring, connectors, sealing, and component integration
• Ability to diagnose faults systematically using technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and test equipment
• Organized, detail-oriented and reliability in tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance records
• Taking full ownership of assigned activities to ensure quality standards
• Comfortable working independently as well as collaborating with engineers and cross-functional teams
• Experience supervising or instructing apprentices or interns is an advantage
• Open for occasional travel to perform maintenance & repairs at our customers’ location
• Fluent in English and German, both written and spoken; any other language is a strong advantage
• Driver’s licence is mandatory
• Willingness to work at waterside locations and perform in-water testing activities.

Bonus points

• Strong troubleshooting skills for complex, integrated mechatronic systems
• Experience with firmware flashing or basic programming for embedded systems
• Familiarity with waterproofing, pressure housings, or marine/underwater hardware is a strong asset
• Experience with or exposure to AUVs, ROVs, drones, or other robotic platforms
• Experience with 3D printing
