Job summary

CERN is seeking an experienced High-Level Trigger Calibration Scientist to develop and refine calibration algorithms for the CMS trigger, and to maintain the NGT Demonstrator System for replay against archived data. You will work with CMS groups to advance optimal calibrations for HL-LHC operations.

The role includes designing a production-grade NGT DAQ/calibration system, testing across realistic CMS scenarios, and delivering reports on calibration impacts for physics performance.

Qualifications

Master’s degree with 2–6 years since graduation or a PhD with up to 3 years since graduation.
Prior CERN fellowship/graduate contract is not applicable.
Experience with high-level trigger systems and calibration workflows is advantageous.

Responsibilities

Work with CMS DPGs and POGs to develop and improve calibration algorithms.
Maintain the NGT Demonstrator System and ensure it runs in replay mode against archived data.
Contribute to design of a production-grade NGT DAQ/calibration system for HL-LHC.
Integrate and test the system within the CMS online infrastructure with admins and engineers.
Conduct thorough testing in realistic operational scenarios and report performance.
Produce detailed reports on how improved online calibrations impact physics performance.
