Job summary

CERN in Geneva invites applications for a High-Level Trigger Calibration Scientist (EP-CMS-TDQ-2026-150-GRAP). The position is full-time with a hybrid work model, 40 hours per week, 24 months with possible extension.

You will develop calibration workflows, work with CMS DPGs/POGs, maintain the NGT Demonstrator, design production-grade systems, test integrations, and contribute to reports on online calibrations' impact on physics performance.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the design, development, and validation of calibration workflows for high-energy physics experiments.
  • Knowledge of Python and C++ programming, and database management systems.
  • Experience with Trigger and Data Acquisition (TDAQ) systems and associated hardware.
  • Practical experience developing software algorithms within an integrated framework.
  • Proficient use of GitHub, GitLab and CI practices.

Responsibilities

  • Work with CMS DPGs and POGs to develop and improve calibration algorithms.
  • Maintain the NGT Demonstrator System and ensure operability in replay mode.
  • Contribute to the design of production-grade NGT Data Acquisition and Calibration System.
  • Integrate and test the system within the CMS online infrastructure.
  • Conduct thorough testing of the NGT system across operational scenarios.
  • Produce reports evaluating the impact of online calibrations on physics performance.
  • This role includes team supervision responsibilities.
