Medela is a global family-owned company focused on helping people with knowledge-based, innovative milk and medical vacuum solutions. We are seeking a R&D Product Development Specialist Materials to join our team and contribute to material compliance and product quality.

In this role you will collaborate across departments to define material requirements, conduct testing, document evidence and support lifecycle management in a regulated medical technology environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Material Science, Biomedical Engineering, Toxicology, Chemistry, Pharmacy or Human Biology.
• 2–4 years of professional experience as a development engineer in medical technology or as a materials science specialist.
• Experience in a regulated medical technology environment.
• Fluent German or English, with strong writing in the second language.

Responsibilities

• Support development and lifecycle management of medical devices, ensuring scope, timelines, quality and regulatory compliance.
• Define and evaluate material requirements based on product, user, safety and regulatory needs.
• Select and assess materials for medical device applications, considering biocompatibility, sterilization, reprocessing, manufacturability and supply continuity.
• Provide material expertise in design reviews, risk assessments, technical evaluations and FMEA activities.
• Plan, coordinate, execute and document material testing and verification with internal teams and external partners.
• Analyze test results, assess evidence and ensure compliance with requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation including specifications, assessments, reports and traceability records.
• Evaluate changes to product, process, supplier and regulatory requirements for material impact.
