Job summary

ABB in Switzerland is seeking an R&D Control Engineer to lead development on high current AC/DC power electronics, reporting to the R&D Team Leader.

You will work on innovative control solutions, simulate power electronics for grid and process contexts, and collaborate with engineering, product management and external strategic partners.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in electrical engineering.
• Strong knowledge of AC and DC power electronics topologies (line-commutated converters, voltage source converters).
• Experience in control design for power electronics systems.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to R&D projects for AC and DC power electronics topologies for high current applications, especially on control topics.
• Technical support in simulation studies to understand impact of power electronics on grid and process.
• Application development support using MATLAB/Simulink & Real-Time Workshop.
• Execution of test plans and test cases in hardware-in-the-loop simulator.
• Technical support in verification of application software according to specifications.
• Support in developing IP strategy within your area of work.
• Collaborate with engineering, product management and participate in technical discussions with internal and external partners.

This position reports to:

R&D Team Lead

As an R&D Control Engineer, you will work on technology and product development projects, identify and implement innovative solutions. In this role, you will be part of the team working on development projects in the field of high current applications like steel production, aluminum production. You will have an opportunity to make your contribution to ensure a sustainable fossil free future. This position reports to R&D Team Leader.

• You will strongly contribute to R&D projects for AC and DC power electronics topologies for high current applications especially on the control topics.

Key requirements:

• You have Master degree in electrical engineering.
• You have very good know-how in AC and DC power electronic topologies like line commutated converters, voltage source converters.
• You bring experience in control design for power electronics systems.
• Knowledge in model based development of control, and protection functions for power electronic systems.
• Very good skills in simulation tools like PSCAD, MATLAB / Simulink, PLECS.
• Knowledge in programming languages like C, C#, Python
• You are a true team player, at the same time, you are a structured person with strong self-management skills and excellent communication skills.
• Fluent in English, knowledge of German is beneficial
