VAT Group in Haag, St. Gallen, CH, is seeking a senior R&D leader to drive materials and manufacturing technologies projects. You will oversee interdisciplinary teams, manage a diverse project portfolio, and push innovations from concept to implementation.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD or MSc in a relevant field, has at least five years in international settings, strong leadership, and a hands-on, analytical mindset supporting cross-functional collaboration.

• Lead technology exploration and development projects with focus on innovation and improvement in Materials and Manufacturing Technologies
• Manage the Materials and Manufacturing Technologies project portfolio in collaboration with Team Leaders
• Interdisciplinary teamwork with scientists, IP, product management, external partners and procurement etc.
• Ensure development is based on future application and system functions needed
• Coordinate with account management, product management and field application engineering to understand customer needs
• Present project progress to VAT innovation boards including innovation degree, costs and timelines
• Collaborate with colleagues from particle testing, lab technicians, simulation team and engineering
• Develop internal project management processes, methodologies and systems

YOUR CHALLENGES

• Lead technology exploration and development projects with focus on innovation and improvement in the fields of Materials and Manufacturing Technologies
• Manage the Materials and Manufacturing Technologies project portfolio in collaboration with the dedicated Team Leaders
• Interdisciplinary teamwork with scientists, IP, product management, external partners and procurement etc.
• Ensure development is based on future application and system functions needed
• Close coordination with account management, product management and field application engineering to evaluate and understand customer application and needs
• Presentation of project progress in the frame of VAT innovation boards based on degree of innovation, project content, project costs and project timeline
• Close collaboration with colleagues from e.g. VAT particle testing, lab technicians, simulation team as well as engineering
• Further development of internal project management processes, methodologies and systems

YOUR COMPETENCIES

• Engineering Degree (PhD or MSc) in materials science, physics, chemistry or related field
• Experience in managing highly complex multidisciplinary projects
• Good understanding of economic figures and quality management
• Resilient personality and strong leadership skills to drive development in cross-functional teams
• Proven track record in developing and implementing technologies in a high-tech environment
• Hands on mentality, analytical and systematic approach, creative thinker with problem solving skills and team spirit
• Willingness to travel (up to 10%)
• Minimum 5 years professional experience in an international environment combined with experience in the R&D area
• Knowledge in vacuum, vacuum applications/processes and semiconductor industry is beneficial
• Strong English and German language capabilities
