Job summary

Actalent in Geneva, Switzerland seeks a Project Chemical Process Engineer to drive CAPEX projects and resolve operational technical issues on site. You will lead the chemical engineering work package from design to execution, coordinating with the Project Manager, suppliers, and operations to meet safety and performance targets.

The role requires hands-on process engineering, reactor and distillation expertise, and independent sizing/calculation capabilities.

Qualifications

• Hands-on chemical process engineering expertise.
• Experience in engineering/design offices and project management is a plus.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations and sizing independently.
• Knowledge of reactors, sizing, and reaction types.
• Experience with distillation processes and column design.
• Proficiency with process simulation software.
• Brownfield project experience in chemical plants.
• Familiarity with ATEX and Swiss safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the chemical engineering work package within CAPEX projects.

• Prepare technical specifications and supervise external engineering studies when applicable.
• Place and follow up orders with equipment or service suppliers.
• Supervise and monitor construction activities as Works Supervisor.
• Participate in commissioning/start-up and test protocols on site.

Job description

For our client in the nutrition, health, and beauty sector, based in Geneva (Switzerland), we are looking for an experienced Project Chemical Process Engineer to contribute to the execution of CAPEX projects and the resolution of operational technical issues.

Responsibilities:

• Carry out engineering studies from the design phase through to execution to meet the specifications of the requirements document while complying with site procedures and standards.
• More specifically, manage the Chemical Engineering work package of the projects (safety, budget, planning, technical meetings, deliverables follow-up, progress tracking) in collaboration with the Project Manager, external stakeholders, and operations teams.
• Prepare technical specifications for external consultations and, where applicable, supervise engineering studies assigned to external companies.
• Place and follow up on orders with equipment or service suppliers.
• Supervise and monitor construction activities as Works Supervisor.
• Participate in the commissioning/start-up of systems on site, including adjustments and test protocols.

Must-haves:

• HES degree or equivalent in Process Engineering / Chemical Engineering.
• Chemical Process Engineer with strong hands‑on technical expertise. Experience working in an engineering/design office in project management would be a plus.
• Ability to independently perform engineering calculations, process design, and equipment sizing.
• Strong knowledge of chemical reactors, including reactor definition, sizing, and assessment of exothermic and non-exothermic reactions.
• Experience with distillation processes, column design, and associated technical calculations.
• Proficiency in chemical engineering software and simulation tools.
• Proven experience in brownfield projects within existing chemical production facilities.
• Knowledge of ATEX, Swiss industrial safety regulations, and Geneva cantonal requirements is a strong advantage.
• Fluent French (working language) and a good level of professional English.

Contract: Temporary – until 31/12/2027
