Microcaps is an ETH Zurich spin‑off founded in March 2019. Our unique technology allows us to produce highly precise and innovative microcapsules that empower materials to unlock new capabilities; all tailored to various markets from cosmetics to nutraceutical and pharma.

Our first commercial focus is a genuine breakthrough for the perfume industry: alcohol‑free fine fragrances. We already have our first products on the market with reputable brand partners and are now preparing global launches to establish Microcaps as the reference for next‑generation fragrance bases.

With our dedicated perfume factory being finalized in 2025, our mission for 2026 is clear: make alcohol‑free fine fragrance available worldwide.

To optimize our COGS through industrial process simplification and automation we are looking for a:

Process Engineer (80%-100%)

We are looking for a Process Engineer to join our Chemistry & Process Engineering team. We develop, manufacture, and run production equipment for the cosmetic, food and pharma industries to provide high quality products for our customers and consumers. Our team is currently working on optimizing our production plant in the Fine Fragrance sector. Our product has already reached worldwide market and it is reshaping this industry.

As a Process Engineer in our production plant at Werbon (Bern), you will play a crucial role in developing and optimizing our encapsulation process systems and help us rapidly scale beyond the current capacity to fulfil customer demand. With your innovative spirit and industrial experience, you will bring new ideas and approaches to the chemical process of our production equipment. Your professional experience with clean process plants makes you a key player in improving and upgrading our continuous running process whilst maintaining the highest quality product output.

Your role includes
  • Be part of a multidisciplinary team that designs, develops, assembles, tests and commissions novel process equipment for microencapsulation processes
  • Lead or support process validation activities, including protocol development, execution, and documentation, in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including both internal and external experts to achieve project objectives
  • Perform testing, validation and troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues and challenges
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously improve design processes and outcomes
What you will bring
  • Strong technical background with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering/Process Engineering or related field or higher. Apprentice background also welcome
  • 2+ years background in process engineering (apprentice highly encouraged), preferably in the food, cosmetics, or pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Strong technical expertise in process design, optimization, and troubleshooting, with knowledge of relevant engineering principles and methodologies
  • Proficiency in process modeling and simulation software (e.g. MATLAB, or similar tools)
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and quality standards applicable to manufacturing processes (e.g., FDA, ISO)
  • Project Management experience
  • Team player and excited to work in a rapidly growing process technology company
  • You are intrinsically motivated to design technical solutions for challenging chemical process problems and have a track record of doing so
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders
  • Fluent English; German is an asset
