Job summary

Lonza Visp, Switzerland, seeks a Process Chemist to join the Process Development Team for Small Molecules within the Advanced Synthesis Platform. You will develop, optimize, and scale APIs/HPAPIs from early development through Process Validation, supervising experiments and communicating results to stakeholders.

The role requires a Ph.D. in Chemistry, GMP transfer experience, and fluency in English (German willingness).

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Chemistry required, strong background in chemical process development.
• Industrial experience transferring processes to GMP manufacturing is highly preferred.
• Experience in HPAPI handling and regulated environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and scale manufacturing processes for small-molecule APIs and HPAPIs from early development through Process Validation.
• Plan, supervise, and evaluate lab experiments, ensuring high scientific standards and reliable data.
• Prepare technical reports and development documentation to communicate process understanding and recommendations.
• Transfer processes to GMP manufacturing facilities and support production campaigns as a process expert.
• Identify process risks, troubleshoot challenges, and implement robust, scalable solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external customers to align on goals and timelines.
• Lead, coach, and develop laboratory staff, driving continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

• Develop, optimize, and scale chemical manufacturing processes for small-molecule APIs and HPAPIs from early clinical development through Process Validation
• Plan, supervise, and evaluate laboratory experiments, ensuring high scientific standards, reliable data generation, and accurate interpretation of results
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and development documentation to communicate process understanding, results, and recommendations
• Transfer processes to GMP manufacturing facilities and provide technical support as a process expert during production campaigns
• Identify process risks, troubleshoot complex technical challenges, and implement robust, scalable, and compliant solutions
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional project teams and external customers to ensure alignment on project goals, timelines, and deliverables
• Lead, coach, and develop laboratory professionals while driving innovation and continuous improvement within the area of expertise

What We’re Looking For

• Ph.D. in Chemistry
• Industrial experience in chemical process development; experience transferring processes to GMP manufacturing is highly preferred
• Knowledge of GMP requirements and experience working in a regulated environment is advantageous
• Strong scientific mindset with the ability to analyze, understand, optimize, and improve chemical processes
• Independent, structured, and reliable working style combined with excellent collaboration and communication skills
• Fluent English skills, both written and spoken; German language skills or a willingness to learn German are required
• Previous experience leading or mentoring scientific professionals in an industrial environment is considered an advantage
