Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search team, focusing on vector similarity search. You will design and implement new vector search features, improve existing functionality, and resolve complex bugs.

This globally distributed team collaborates across continents via email, GitHub, Zoom, and Slack. You will drive initiatives in vector databases, contribute to new search features, and mentor engineers while maintaining high code quality.

Qualifications

• Experience with vector similarity on large-scale search platforms.
• Expertise in vector databases and algorithms (HNSW, IVF).
• Strong Java skills with knowledge of concurrency and APIs.

Responsibilities

• Lead Elasticsearch vector-search initiatives delivering fast, relevant results.
• Build new search features, fix bugs, and improve code clarity.
• Collaborate with a distributed team of engineers across time zones.
• Be the go-to expert on vector similarity implementation for search relevance.
• Review community issues and contribute via asynchronous collaboration.
