Job summary

Empa, a leading Swiss research institution, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Tabular Foundation Models for Building and District Energy Systems. The role combines Empa UESL’s energy-system modeling with IMOS’s ML expertise to advance tabular foundation models across diverse datasets and conditions.

The successful candidate will benchmark, adapt, and extend models, publish research results, and contribute to competitive proposals.

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant field and strong ML background.
• Demonstrated research with foundation models and transfer learning.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and benchmark pre-trained tabular foundation models for energy applications across buildings and districts.
• Adapt and fine-tune models for energy-system data and domain knowledge.
• Develop new tabular foundation-model approaches with transferability across heterogeneous energy datasets.
• Validate models using measurements, simulations, and optimization methods.
• Coordinate joint research activities between UESL and IMOS and publish results.
