Zusammenfassung

Empa – Eidgenössische Materialpr"ufnungs- und Forschungsanstalt is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to develop tabular foundation models for building and district energy systems. The role is anchored in the Urban Energy Systems Laboratory (UESL) with collaboration from IMOS at EPFL, led by Prof.

Olga Fink. The project focuses on learning from heterogeneous tabular data, transferring across systems, and enabling reliable energy-system optimization.

Qualifikationen

• PhD in mathematics, electrical or mechanical engineering, computer science, or related field.
• Strong ML background with foundation models and evaluation/adaptation experience.
• Experience with tabular/foundation models for structured data is advantageous.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Aufgaben

• Evaluate and benchmark pre-trained tabular foundation models for building and district energy applications.
• Adapt and fine-tune foundation models for energy-system tasks and data.
• Develop new tabular foundation-model approaches with focus on transferability across datasets.
• Validate and benchmark models using building measurements, physics simulations and energy-system optimization.
• Research how tabular foundation models aid energy-system modeling, including prediction and uncertainty quantification.
• Coordinate joint research activities between UESL and IMOS.
• Publish and present research results and perspectives.
• Contribute to research proposals and funding applications.
