Zusammenfassung

EPFL invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to advance MEMS probes and instrumentation for cryogenic scanning probe microscopy and quantum measurements. The role spans MEMS design, wafer-scale fabrication, and integration into cryogenic SPM systems, with collaboration across academic and industrial partners.

Ideal candidates hold a PhD in a related field and have hands-on MEMS fabrication experience, cleanroom skills, and experience with AFM/STM or related measurement techniques;

Qualifikationen

  • PhD in microengineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied physics, materials science, or a closely related field
  • Strong hands-on experience in MEMS or micro/nanofabrication
  • Practical experience with cleanroom techniques (photolithography, thin-film deposition, etching, metallization, wafer bonding)
  • Experience in design and experimental characterization of micro- or nanoscale devices
  • Experience in at least one of: AFM/STM, piezoelectric/resistive MEMS, low-noise electrical measurements, or vacuum/cryogenic instrumentation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to troubleshoot complex experiments
  • Independent, creative and collaborative working style; excellent written and oral English

Aufgaben

  • Design, fabrication and characterization of advanced MEMS probes for cryo-SPM
  • Development and optimization of wafer-scale micro- and nanofabrication processes
  • Mechanical, electrical and thermal characterization of prototypes in vacuum/cryogenic conditions
  • Integration and testing of probes in scanning probe instrumentation
  • Collaboration with academic and industrial partners in quantum materials and cryogenic SPM
  • Analysis and publication of results; supervision of students; contribute to technology transfer
