Job summary

Lonza in Basel Stücki, Switzerland, is seeking a Plant Engineer to ensure reliable operation of laboratory equipment and facility systems within a GMP-regulated environment. The role emphasizes maintenance, troubleshooting and engineering project support across sites in Basel and Stein.

You will collaborate with QA, manufacturing and audits, acting as SME during internal and regulatory inspections while driving safety, quality and sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Biomedical, Industrial, or similar).
• Experience in engineering roles within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, or other regulated industries.
• Knowledge of equipment lifecycle management, project execution, and maintenance practices.
• Experience working within GMP-regulated environments and quality systems.
• Familiarity with automation technologies or laboratory equipment is an advantage.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent communication skills with English and German (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

• Ensure the reliable operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and facility systems through preventive maintenance programs.
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause investigations for critical equipment failures.
• Own and support Change Controls, CAPAs, Deviations, and Risk Assessments related to engineering systems.
• Maintain engineering documentation, including equipment records, drawings, specifications, SOPs, etc.
• Act as the Engineering SME during internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities that enhance reliability, compliance, efficiency, and sustainability.

What you will do:

• Ensure the reliable operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and facility systems through effective preventive maintenance programs.

What we are looking for:

• Bachelor or Master Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Biomedical, Industrial, or similar discipline)
• Experience in engineering roles within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, or other regulated industries
• Knowledge of equipment lifecycle management, project execution, and maintenance practices
• Experience working within GMP-regulated environments and quality systems
• Familiarity with computerized systems, automation technologies, or laboratory equipment is an advantage
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Excellent communication skills with excellent command of English and German, written and spoken
