Job summary

The University of Bern invites applications for a PhD project focused on preclinical validation of Aurora kinase A vulnerabilities in FANCA-deficient cancers. You will work in an interdisciplinary team of medical oncologists, pathologists and translational researchers, using patient-derived cancer models and in vivo studies.

The successful candidate has an MSc in Molecular Life Sciences or related field, strong mammalian cell culture skills, and a passion for translational cancer research.

Qualifications

• MSc in Molecular Life Sciences or a related field completed by the starting date.
• Solid practical experience in mammalian cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques.
• Experience with data analysis and statistics is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Establish, maintain and characterize patient-derived cancer cell lines and 3D organoids.
• Perform in vitro efficacy studies and mechanistic validation experiments.
• Design and execute genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 screens and validate hits.
• Analyse screening and sequencing data using established pipelines (MAGeCK, R).
• Perform confocal and multiplexed immunofluorescence microscopy.
• Contribute to in vivo xenograft experiments and histology characterization of tumours.
• Present results at conferences and prepare manuscripts for publication.
