Job summary

Universitätsspital Basel sucht eine PhD-Position im Translational Tumor Immunology, um Mechanismen von Immun-Checkpoint-Blockade zu erforschen und Tumor-Immunsignale zu charakterisieren. Arbeiten erfolgen am Schnittfeld von Forschung, Klinik und innovativen Technologien.

Sie arbeiten eigenständig in einem internationalen Umfeld und nutzen moderne räumliche Profiling-Technologien, 3D-Tumormodelle und fortgeschrittene Analytik, um Marker für Therapieresponse zu identifizieren.

Qualifications

• Master-Abschluss in Biologie, biomedizinischen Wissenschaften, Biochemie, Molekulare Medizin, Immunologie oder verwandtem Lebenswissenschaftsbereich.
• Starkes Interesse an translationaler Krebsforschung und Tumorimmunologie.
• Praktische Erfahrung in MVZ-Kultur (Mammalian Cell Culture) und molekularer/Zellbiologie, idealerweise im Kontext von Tumorbiologie.
• Initiative, wissenschaftliche Neugier und selbständiges sowie interdisziplinäres, internationales Arbeiten.
• Ausgezeichnete Englischkenntnisse; Erfahrung mit primären menschlichen Proben, Durchflusszytometrie, räumlichen Technologien, 3D-Modellen, Funktionsassays oder Datenanalyse mit R/Python ist ein Vorteil.

Responsibilities

• Untersuchung der Mechanismen von Reaktion und Widerstand gegen Immun-Checkpoint-Blockade in soliden Tumoren, Fokus auf Kopf- und Hals- sowie ösophagogastrische Krebsarten.
• Charakterisierung des tumoralen Immunmilieus mittels räumlicher Proteomik, multiplex imaging und räumlicher Transkriptomik.
• Integration von tissusbasierten Immunprofilen mit blutbasierten Biomarkern und klinischen Outcomes zur Identifizierung von Markern für Patientenselektion und Therapieresponse.
• Aufbau patientenabgestimmter 3D-Tumormodelle und Explants sowie funktionale Tumor– Immunzell-Experimente zur Validierung von Widerstandsmechanismen.
• Aktive Mitwirkung bei Planung, Durchführung und Analyse des Projekts, Zusammenarbeit mit klinischen und wissenschaftlichen Partnern, Präsentation und Veröffentlichung der Ergebnisse.

PhD Position (Translational Tumor Immunology)

Das können Sie bewegen

• Investigate mechanisms of response and resistance to immune checkpoint blockade in solid tumors, with a focus on head and neck and esophagogastric cancers
• Characterize the tumor immune microenvironment using spatial proteomics, multiplex imaging and spatial transcriptomics
• Integrate tissue-based immune profiles with blood-based biomarkers, immune repertoires and clinical outcomes to identify markers for patient stratification and treatment response
• Establish patient-derived 3D tumor models and explants and perform functional tumor–immune cell experiments to validate resistance mechanisms and therapeutic strategies
• Take an active role in planning and conducting the project, analysing complex datasets, collaborating with clinical and scientific partners, and presenting and publishing your findings

Das bringen Sie mit

• Master's degree in biology, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, molecular medicine, immunology, cancer biology or a related life-science discipline
• Strong interest in translational cancer research, tumor immunology and modern spatial profiling technologies
• Solid hands‑on experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular or cellular biology, ideally in the context of tumor biology
• Initiative, scientific curiosity and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and international environment
• Excellent English language skills; experience with primary human samples, flow cytometry, spatial technologies, 3D models, functional assays or quantitative data analysis using R/Python is an advantage
