CSEM in Neuchâtel seeks a PhD student in Quantum Technologies to join the Quantum Technologies group within the Instrumentation Business Unit. The four-year program focuses on developing high-vacuum MEMS atomic vapor cells for next‑generation quantum sensors.

You will design, fabricate and characterize miniaturized vapor cells, validate performance, and collaborate with academic partners in the NCCR Precision network, documenting results for publications and project reports.

Qualifikationen

• Master’s degree in physics, microengineering, electrical engineering, materials science, nanotechnology or a related discipline.
• Strong motivation to pursue a PhD in experimental quantum technologies and MEMS-based precision devices.
• Experience or knowledge in MEMS, vacuum technology, atomic vapor cells or quantum sensing is a plus.

Aufgaben

• Contribute to the NCCR Precision research programme by developing high-vacuum MEMS atomic vapor cells for quantum applications.
• Design, fabricate and characterize miniaturized vapor cells enabling compact quantum sensors and precision metrology.
• Collaborate with academic partners within the NCCR Precision network.
• Document results and present at meetings, workshops and conferences.
• Maintain awareness of the state of the art in MEMS vapor cells and vacuum packaging.
