Zusammenfassung

ETH Zurich invites applications for a Doctoral Position in Debris Flow Monitoring within the Engineering Geology Group. The PhD candidate will work on field monitoring, sensor integration, and data analysis to understand debris-flow dynamics in mountain landscapes.

The project is fully funded for 4 years, with emphasis on developing novel methods to quantify debris-flow velocity and depth from multi-modal data, including point clouds and cameras.

Qualifikationen

• MSc in Engineering Geology, Earth Sciences, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or related fields.
• Experience with or interest in point cloud analysis is considered an asset.
• Strong interest in debris flow mechanisms.
• Strong interest and/or background in landslide hazard and risk assessment.
• Motivation, creativity, independence, and ability to work in a team.

Aufgaben

• Install and operate debris flow monitoring systems in the field at five study sites.
• Analyze point cloud and camera data to derive velocity and flow depth estimates.
• Perform hypothesis-driven analysis of in-situ debris flow measurements.
• Develop new approaches to understanding and managing debris flows.
