Inova Consulting, a Swiss life sciences consultancy, seeks a hands-on microbiology researcher in the Basel area to maintain and expand a microbial strain collection within a biologics research group.

You will culture, preserve, and characterize bacterial and fungal strains, perform DNA extraction and PCR, and document workflows in ELN while contributing to lab operations and inventory management.

Formación

• Hands-on microbiology/molecular biology lab experience.
• Experience in BSL-1/BSL-2 environments and containment protocols.
• Ability to plan and document workflows and maintain accurate records.

Responsabilidades

• Maintain and expand the microbial strain collection
• Propagate, preserve and curate bacterial and fungal strains
• Culture microorganisms under a variety of experimental conditions
• Support strain characterisation
• Carry out routine molecular biology assays, including DNA extraction and PCR analysis
• Plan, execute and document laboratory workflows
• Independently schedule tasks and plan daily experimental protocols
• Document all work in electronic lab notebooks (ELN)
• Analyse and report scientific data accurately
• Support overall laboratory operations
• Contribute to equipment maintenance and media preparation
• Manage consumable inventory and stock

Position Overview

An international life sciences company is reinforcing its biologicals research team in the Basel area during a peak period. The role is centred on the maintenance and expansion of a microbial strain collection (bacterial and fungal isolates) within a natural products and biomolecular chemistry research group.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and expand the microbial strain collection
• Propagate, preserve and curate bacterial and fungal strains

Experience Level

• Proven hands-on experience in a microbiology / molecular biology laboratory

Technical Skills

• Microbiological proficiency: culturing, isolating and archiving bacteria and fungi using strict aseptic techniques
• Biosafety & containment: hands-on experience in BSL-1 and BSL-2 environments, operating within biological safety cabinets (BSCs) and adhering to containment protocols
• Molecular biology: genomic DNA preparation, PCR amplification and gel electrophoresis for strain verification
• Laboratory management: routine lab maintenance, media preparation, sterilisation standards (autoclaving) and stock management
