CERN in Geneva invites applications for a position in the Vacuum, Surfaces and Coatings group within the Technology Department to contribute to the Beam Screen Treatment project at the LHC. After training, you will assemble and commission coating systems and lead deployment in the LHC tunnel.

Eligibility requires a Master’s degree with 2–6 years of post-graduation experience or a PhD with up to 3 years, no bachelor’s degree only.

Jobbeschreibung

Join the Vacuum, Surfaces and Coatings group in the Technology Department and contribute to the Beam Screen Treatment (BST) project at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This project will apply a thin carbon coating in situ to the LHC’s cryogenic beam pipes during the upcoming Long Shutdown, an essential step to unlock the accelerator’s future performance. After a short hands-on training, you will be directly involved in assembling and commissioning advanced coating systems. You will then take on a leading role in deploying the coating process in the LHC tunnel, working at the heart of one of the world’s most complex scientific instruments.

• You are a national of aCERN Member State or Associate Member State . Currently, we cannot consider applications from Pakistani and Lithuanian nationals for positions with a 2026 start date, as the ceiling defined under Article II.5 of the Associate Membership Agreement has been reached.
• By the application deadline, you have a master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of professional experience since graduation or a PhD with a maximum of 3 years of professional experience since graduation. You are not eligible with only a bachelor’s degree.
• You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
