Job summary

avacone Switzerland seeks a Linux Engineer to design, implement, secure, and support enterprise Linux platforms in Basel. You will contribute to reliability, automation, and lifecycle management while modernising infrastructure.

Responsibilities include building and maintaining Linux servers, upgrades, patching, hardening, and ensuring high availability. You will develop automation scripts and collaborate with cross-functional teams on CI/CD and IaC initiatives.

Qualifications

• Hands-on administration of enterprise Linux environments, especially Red Hat.
• Experience with Linux installation, configuration, troubleshooting and performance tuning.
• Scripting and automation experience, especially Ansible Automation Platform.
• Understanding of networking, storage, authentication and system security.
• Familiarity with virtualization, cloud platforms and containers.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and related ecosystem tools is advantageous.
• Experience with monitoring, logging and operational support.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and Git workflows.
• Ability to apply secure baselines and support compliance requirements.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent; 6–10 years of relevant experience recommended.

• Investigate complex technical issues and conduct root cause analysis.
• Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.

Requirements

Skills and Experience

• Strong hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux environments, particularly Red Hat.
• Knowledge of Linux installation, configuration, troubleshooting and performance tuning.
• Experience with shell scripting and automation, particularly Ansible Automation Platform.
• Understanding of networking, storage, authentication, certificates and system security.
• Familiarity with virtualisation, cloud platforms and container technologies.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and associated ecosystem tools would be advantageous.
• Experience with monitoring, logging, event correlation and operational support.
• Understanding of Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and Git workflows.
• Ability to apply secure configuration baselines and support compliance requirements.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Typically six to ten years of relevant experience, or demonstrable expertise appropriate to the role.
• Experience coordinating the work of others or contributing to technical projects is desirable.
• Strong understanding of platform reliability, security, resilience and operational excellence.
• Experience participating in incident, problem, change and lifecycle management.
• Ability to document technical solutions and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
