Job summary

Lotus Partners, on behalf of a Geneva-based bank, is seeking a Legal Advisor with a minimum of 8-10 years in the Swiss banking sector. You will provide legal advice across departments, draft and negotiate banking agreements, especially in Commodity Trade Finance, Wealth Management and Financial Institutions activities.

You will monitor Swiss legislation, coordinate with external counsel, support Compliance, and train staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8–10 years of experience in a similar legal position within the Swiss banking sector.
• Strong knowledge of Commodity Trade Finance is mandatory.
• Excellent knowledge of Swiss banking environment and applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

For one of our clients, a bank based in Geneva, we are looking for a:

LEGAL ADVISOR

• Provide legal advice and support to the Bank’s various departments on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters
• Draft, review and negotiate legal agreements and banking documentation, particularly in relation to Commodity Trade Finance, Wealth Management and Financial Institutions activities
• Advise internal stakeholders on legal risks and propose pragmatic solutions in line with applicable laws, regulations and internal policies
• Handle requests, investigations and decisions issued by Swiss or international judicial, administrative and supervisory authorities
• Draft and review internal policies, directives, procedures and forms to ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements
• Conduct legal research and provide analyses on various banking and regulatory matters
• Negotiate legal documentation with clients and their legal representatives in coordination with Front Office teams
• Handle legal matters related to client succession cases
• Coordinate and monitor external legal counsel on banking matters, legal advice and litigation
• Monitor developments in Swiss legislation and regulations and assess their impact on the Bank’s activities
• Support the implementation of new or amended legal requirements within the organisation
• Provide support to the Compliance function on cross-functional matters
• Prepare legal memoranda, reports and minutes as required
• Deliver internal legal training when necessary
• Act as back-up on legal matters when required

Required profile

• Minimum 8–10 years of experience in a similar legal position within the Swiss banking sector
• Strong knowledge and proven experience in Commodity Trade Finance is mandatory
• Excellent knowledge of the Swiss banking environment and applicable laws and regulations
• Good understanding of regulatory and compliance matters
• Excellent legal analysis, drafting and negotiation skills
• Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise and manage several matters simultaneously
• Autonomous, proactive and solution-oriented approach
• Strong sense of responsibility, discretion and professional ethics
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively with various internal and external stakeholders
• Very good command of standard IT and MS Office tools
• Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken
• Swiss residency required
