Zusammenfassung

CERN in Geneva seeks a Detector Safety Physicist to join a small multidisciplinary team working on the Detector Safety System (DSS) of the ATLAS experiment. You will upgrade, commission, and define safety systems for new ATLAS sub-detectors and contribute to infrastructure upgrades for Run 4.

This role offers hands-on experience with applied electronics within large-scale infrastructure and includes supervision responsibilities for the DSS team.

Qualifikationen

• Master's or PhD in Applied Physics or a closely related field.
• Experience with safety system chains, sensors, alarms, and interlocks.
• Familiarity with PLC wiring and testing, and SCADA systems.

Aufgaben

• Lead DSS testing and commissioning with subsystems.
• Monitor cable installations for DSS signal transmission.
• Design safety matrices for new subsystems with safety/detector experts.
• Improve monitoring in ATLAS galleries, including leak detection.
• Upgrade central infrastructure components in ATLAS galleries.
• Maintain fire, evacuation, gas, and ODH safety systems.
• Present progress to ATLAS Safety and Technical Coordination teams.
• Role includes team supervision responsibilities.
