It conducts technological and clinical research to optimize spot‑scanning proton beam therapy and to expand the range of indications for proton radiotherapy. In addition to its research activities, PSI provides a clinical program for patients with indications approved for proton beam therapy within the Swiss health care system. At the Center for Proton Therapy CPT, deep‑seated tumors are treated using two gantries, while ocular tumors are treated on a dedicated beam line. The medical physics research program focuses on advanced imaging, treatment planning, and proton therapy delivery.
