Zusammenfassung

EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, invites applications for a Laboratory Technician in the Living Patterns Laboratory and the Laboratory of Statistical Biophysics. You will support daily lab operations, maintain cultures, prepare reagents, and coordinate purchasing and equipment maintenance.

  • Practical experience in biological laboratory work, preferably including the maintenance of cell or microorganism cultures and the preparation of buffers, media, and reagents.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a dynamic research environment.
  • Ability to follow established protocols and accurately document procedures, samples, and experimental results.
  • Ability to communicate scientific information and experimental results in a clear and structured manner.
  • Capacity to work independently while contributing effectively to collaborative and interdisciplinary teams.

Aufgaben

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the laboratories, including purchasing, inventory management, equipment maintenance, and the organization of shared laboratory spaces and resources.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory documentation, organization systems, and standard operating procedures to support safe, efficient, and reproducible work.
  • Maintain laboratory cultures and cell stocks, including bacteria, yeast, ciliates, and Chlamydomonas, ensuring their health, traceability, and long-term preservation.
  • Participate in a shared rotation covering weekends and public holidays to maintain laboratory cultures, in accordance with EPFL regulations.
  • Prepare buffers, culture media, reagents, and stock solutions for cell-based and in vitro experiments, ensuring consistency and accurate documentation.
  • Support established experimental workflows and contribute to the development of new laboratory procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, biosafety, and institutional regulations.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between the two research groups and contribute to a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment.

Laboratory Technician
Mission

The Living Patterns Laboratory and the Laboratory of Statistical Biophysics within EPFL’s School of Basic Sciences are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support their interdisciplinary research programs. The successful candidate will play a central role in the day-to-day operation of the laboratories, including the maintenance of biological cultures and experimental resources, the preparation of reagents and media, and the coordination of purchasing and equipment maintenance. They will also contribute to research activities at the interface of biology and physics. The position requires excellent organizational skills, meticulous record-keeping, and the ability to communicate scientific and technical information clearly and precisely.

Main duties and responsibilities

Profile
