DCS Recruitment is recruiting a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer – Stress / Structural Analysis for Basel, Switzerland. The role focuses on structural analysis and FEA across aircraft modifications, with exposure to metallic and composite structures.

You will work with mechanical design teams, perform static and dynamic analyses, develop FEM models, and contribute to safety and certification documentation. Open to graduates or early-career engineers.

Qualifikationen

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of structural mechanics, engineering principles, materials and stress analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with FEA modelling.
  • Experience analysing structural components or systems using FEA.
  • An understanding of static and/or dynamic structural analysis, with fatigue experience advantageous.
  • Exposure to metallic and/or composite structures.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with wider engineering teams.
  • A methodical approach and strong attention to detail, particularly around safety and technical accuracy.

  • Supporting material testing and engineering standards where required.
  • Liaising with internal engineering teams and external third parties.
  • Developing knowledge of aerospace certification requirements, regulations and means of compliance.

Junior Mechanical Design Engineer – Stress / Structural Analysis

We are recruiting on behalf of an established aerospace engineering organisation based in Basel, Switzerland, supporting complex aircraft completion and modification projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Graduate, Junior or early-career Structural / Stress Engineer with hands‑on FEA experience to work on a varied range of aerospace engineering projects. The client is open to both graduates and engineers with several years of relevant experience and is particularly interested in candidates with strong structural analysis and FEA fundamentals who are keen to develop their aerospace expertise.

The Role

You will be responsible for supporting structural and stress analysis across aircraft completion and modification projects, working closely with mechanical design and engineering teams.

The role will involve:

  • Performing static, dynamic and fatigue analysis of aircraft installations and structures.
  • Carrying out structural analysis using FEA and hand calculations.

About You

The client is open to candidates from graduate level through to engineers with several years of relevant experience, depending on their technical background.

You will ideally have:
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of structural mechanics, engineering principles, materials and stress analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with FEA modelling – this is an essential part of the role.
  • Experience analysing structural components or systems using FEA.
  • An understanding of static and/or dynamic structural analysis, with fatigue experience advantageous.
  • Exposure to metallic and/or composite structures.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with wider engineering teams.
  • A methodical approach and strong attention to detail, particularly around safety and technical accuracy.
Software Experience

Femap is preferred but not essential.

Experience with other FEA/CAE packages will be considered, including:

  • ANSYS
  • Abaqus
  • Nastran
  • HyperMesh
  • Patran
  • Other relevant FEA/CAE software

Experience with CATIA, SolidWorks or AutoCAD would also be beneficial.

Aerospace Experience

Previous aerospace experience is advantageous but not essential.

Candidates from relevant automotive, motorsport, rail, transportation or other highly regulated engineering environments will also be considered where they can demonstrate strong structural analysis and hands‑on FEA experience.

Previous experience with EASA/FAA certification is not required, as this can be developed within the role.
