Job summary

Mercuria, a leading global energy and commodities trader, is seeking an Investment Analyst / Associate for its Metals Trading team in Geneva, Switzerland. You will support evaluation and execution of investment opportunities across the metals and mining value chain, working with senior traders and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in investment banking, private equity or similar investment roles.
  • Strong understanding of financial analysis, valuation and investment review processes.
  • Outstanding financial modelling skills and ability to build complex models.
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical capabilities.
  • Experience in transaction execution, due diligence and preparing investment materials.
  • Ability to work across multiple teams and manage several workstreams.
  • Commercially minded, proactive and able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in Chinese is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Support the review and assessment of investment opportunities within the metals and mining sector.
  • Build, maintain and review detailed financial models to evaluate investment cases, project returns, sensitivities and risks.
  • Partner closely with senior traders to analyse and assess strategic and commercial opportunities.
  • Liaise with external counterparties, advisors and partners to review financial models and conduct transaction-related due diligence.
  • Work alongside technical experts to incorporate operational, project and market assumptions into financial analysis.
  • Coordinate internal workstreams across Structured Finance, Credit and Risk teams to support transaction evaluation and approval processes.
  • Prepare high-quality investment memoranda, presentations and decision materials for senior management and internal committees.
  • Assist in the ongoing monitoring of live opportunities and active investments as required.

Role Overview
  • We are seeking a highly motivated Investment Analyst / Associate to join our Metals Trading team in Geneva, Switzerland
  • The role will support the evaluation and execution of investment opportunities across the metals and mining value chain, working closely with senior traders and internal stakeholders on financial analysis, due diligence and transaction review
  • The successful candidate will play a key role in assessing potential investments, building and reviewing financial models, coordinating internal workstreams and preparing investment materials for senior management

Candidate Profile
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity or a similar investment-focused role, ideally with a strong focus on metals and mining
  • Excellent understanding of financial analysis, valuation and investment review processes
  • Outstanding financial modelling skills with the ability to build and critically assess complex models
  • Strong analytical capabilities and high attention to detail
  • Experience in transaction execution, due diligence and preparing investment materials for senior stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple teams and manage several workstreams simultaneously
  • Commercially minded, proactive and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in Chinese is highly desirable
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior exposure to metals trading, mining investments, natural resources or commodity-linked transactions would be advantageous
  • Experience working with technical, commercial and risk teams in a transaction environment is preferred
  • Familiarity with cross-border transactions and external stakeholder management would be beneficia
