Belimo Automation AG in Hinwil (ZH) is seeking an Intellectual Property Expert to protect and develop the company’s IP portfolio. The role involves working with external patent attorneys, technical experts, and business stakeholders to drive IP strategy.

You will manage patents and designs, perform prior art searches, and conduct FTO assessments while collaborating with multiple disciplines across the firm. The position is 80–100% with permanent tenure.

Qualifikationen

• Degree in Engineering, Natural Sciences, or related technical field with IP qualification or substantial IP experience.
• Several years of experience in an industrial environment or consulting role related to IP.
• Solid understanding of patents, designs, and IP management.
• Ability to collaborate with external patent attorneys and service providers.
• Fluent in English and German, both written and spoken.

• Manage, maintain and renew patent and design portfolio per IP strategy and budget.
• Support invention disclosures and patent applications, including prior art searches.
• Ensure Freedom-to-Operate assessments in IP-relevant projects.

• Advise business units on patent/design matters through training and workshops.
• Represent IP function in cross-functional meetings and technical discussions.
• Administer parts of the IP portfolio and related processes.

Intellectual Property Expert (80-100%)
Summary
As an Intellectual Property Expert, you will play a key role in protecting and developing the company's intellectual property portfolio. Working closely with external patent attorneys, technical experts, and business stakeholders, you will help drive the IP strategy, support innovation activities, and provide expert guidance on patents, designs, and broader IP matters.

What You’ll Do

• Manage, maintain, and renew the patent and design portfolio in line with the company's IP strategy and budget requirements.
• Support invention disclosures and patent applications, including prior art and patentability searches.
• Ensure appropriate Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) assessments are carried out in IP-relevant projects.
• Coordinate and evaluate patent searches, competitive intelligence activities, and IP monitoring.
• Advise and support business units on patent and design matters through training, workshops, reporting, and consultation.
• Represent the Intellectual Property function in cross-functional meetings and technical discussions.
• Administer assigned parts of the company's intellectual property portfolio and related processes.
• Contribute to broader IP topics such as copyrights, trade secrets, NDAs, licensing agreements, R&D contracts, disputes, and IP strategy implementation projects.

Who You Are

• Degree in Engineering, Natural Sciences, or a related technical field, combined with recognized IP qualification or substantial experience in intellectual property.
• Several years of experience in an industrial environment or consulting role related to intellectual property.
• Solid understanding of patents, designs, and intellectual property management.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with external patent attorneys and service providers.
• Strong capability to quickly understand and support multiple technical disciplines simultaneously.
• Fluent in English and German, both written and spoken.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain and summarize complex topics for different stakeholder groups.
• High level of initiative with a structured, reliable, precise, and detail-oriented working style.
