Zusammenfassung

ONNEC is seeking an IMACD Data Centre Engineer for on-site work across client sites in Zürich. You will manage all aspects of installation, move, add, change and delete tasks for data-centre hardware, cabling and connectivity.

A strong background in fibre/copper patching and DC operations is essential. Responsibilities include ticket monitoring, auditing cabling, configuring servers and network devices, stock control and on-site support.

Qualifikationen

  • Proven on-site data-centre experience in a live environment.
  • Hands-on rack and stack of servers and network hardware.
  • Familiar with DC access controls, change management and standards.
  • Able to perform fibre/copper patching, testing and terminations.
  • Strong documentation and stock management skills.

Aufgaben

  • Monitor tickets, ensure SLA-based completion.
  • Audit and document existing cabling and desktop configurations.
  • Build, rack and stack network/server hardware in DC halls.
  • Carry out IMAC-D of desktop equipment and data wiping.
  • Perform routine patching, testing and fault finding on cabling.
  • Update drawings, schedules and maintain stock records.

We re recruiting for Engineers to work within a team carrying out cabling infrastructure and network hardware support at Onnec client sites. The work will include all types of patching, break-fix, circuit provision and recovery, disconnect/reconnect of desktop and networking equipment, rack and stack of Data Centre Hardware (eg Server, Network and Storage) and provision of connectivity to DC Hardware. The position will be site based as required and reports to the Service Delivery Manager.

For this role candidates will need to:

  • Be able to work on multiple client sites across allocated regions.
  • Be available for out of hours working, being part of an on-call rota to include weekends and evenings as business demands.
  • Work the following hours: Monday to Friday a mixture of shifts including 07:00 - 16:00 and 12:00 - 21:00 (Shift Rota) - Weekday overtime and Weekend working as required.
  • Understanding of Spoken and Written German Language is required.
Responsibilities of our IMACD Data Centre Engineer will include:
  • Monitor the client’s ticket system and ensure tickets are assigned and completed within SLA.
  • Audit and document existing cabling installations.
  • Audit and document desktop configuration, including patching and power, for existing and proposed user locations.
  • Compile patching schedules as required.
  • Utilise Cable Management Software as required for patching planning.
  • Power down and disconnect all desktop equipment including any peripherals ensuring all identified and labelled correctly ready for reconnection.
  • IMAC-D of all desktop equipment including any peripherals
  • Carry Out Data Wiping activities by use of Software tools.
  • Carry out all types of patching / jumpering including all types of voice & data, copper & fibre.
  • Carry out testing and fault finding on Copper and Fibre Cabling Infrastructure (including ISDN Line Tests) using a variety of modern testers to include continuity testers, tone generators and modern cabling standards testers.
  • Carry out all types of Copper Voice and Data terminations as required by the Onnec portfolio of cabling systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of all stock delivered and update as stock is used and advise line manager of any requirements, shortfalls.
  • Carry out surveys and update drawings and schedules.
  • Install and test analogue, digital and VOIP telephone handsets and provide headset support as required.
  • Build, Rack and Stack Network and Server hardware in Data Centre Halls and provide connectivity.
  • Perform Network Hardware break-fix activities e.g. replacing power supplies, modules, fans etc.
What we’re looking for in our IMACD Data Centre Engineer:
Tier 1 Data‑centre Experience
  • Proven experience working on‑site in a live data‑centre environment.
  • Familiar with DC access controls, change management, and working under data‑centre standards
Server Hardware Experience
  • Hands‑on rack and stack of physical servers
  • Power cabling (A/B feeds), basic hardware troubleshooting, server swaps
  • Comfortable working on server hardware in production DC environment
Network Hardware Experience
  • Rack and stack of network switches
  • Patch cabling (management and production ports)
  • Physical hardware replacement
Base Skills
  • Experience accessing and working with server management interfaces (e.g. iLO / iDRAC or equivalent)
  • Apply provided IP details and perform firmware updates where instructed
  • Validate hardware health and hand over to IT / engineering teams
Understands role boundaries

This role does not involve performing OS installation, network configuration, or application setup

  • The successful candidate will need to have proven track record and solid background experience in Fibre optic patching, installation and testing.
  • Thorough understanding of modern computer network infrastructure
  • Thorough understanding and practical experience of fibre and copper voice and data cabling including terminating, test equipment, test parameters and test techniques
  • Good knowledge of Service Now (and other Process and Asset Management Tools)
  • Good knowledge of Server Patching
  • Knowledge of LAN / WAN and Active devices
  • Able to use all types of Modern Hand Held Cable Standards Testers
  • Able to use light Source and Power Meter
