Job summary

The Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic (IIMP) role is based in Geneva with potential relocation to Damascus or another location. The Associate Human Rights Officer will research, collect, and analyze human rights information, including gender considerations, and assist with digital investigations and data management.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in law, political science, international relations, social sciences, or related field.
• Two years of progressively responsible experience in human rights or related area.
• Experience engaging with victims (refugees or families of missing persons) desirable.
• UN Competitive Recruitment Examination may waive experience requirements.

Responsibilities

• Research and collect information on human rights matters, including gender dimensions.
• Assist with digital investigations related to international law and mandate.
• Collect and preserve online information, assessing credibility per protocols.
• Draft reports and correspondence concerning the institution's mandate.
• Prepare summaries for hearings and consultations.
• Maintain awareness of current human rights issues and developments.
• Participate in human rights training for capacity building.
• Promote data collection and stakeholder liaison for baselines.
