Organizational context: The International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) aims to assist in the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the most serious crimes under International Law committed in Syria since March 2011. These Associate Information Analyst positions are within the Judicial Support and Cooperation Section, reporting to a P3 Analyst under the overall supervision of a P4 Legal Officer/RFA Coordinator.

Job purpose: The Associate Information Analyst will support investigations and criminal accountability efforts related to serious international crimes in Syria. This involves developing research and analysis strategies, conducting research within the IIIM repository and open-source information, and gathering, evaluating, and analyzing data to identify relevant evidence and information gaps. The role contributes to judicial support activities by organizing and synthesizing information, maintaining internal databases, and managing evidence processes. The incumbent will also participate in briefings and conferences with internal and external stakeholders, including national judicial authorities and civil society actors, to facilitate the collection and analysis of critical information and evidence.

Responsibilities: The Associate Information Analyst will assist in developing research and analysis strategies to identify evidence from the IIIM repository and open-source information, supporting investigations for criminal accountability. Responsibilities include gathering, collecting, evaluating, and analyzing information to determine relevance and identify gaps for judicial support activities. The role involves organizing and synthesizing information and evidence using analytical software for IIIM responses and proactive sharing. Maintaining and updating internal databases, managing information, and utilizing electronic information systems for classification, storage, and transfer are key duties. Additionally, the incumbent will participate in briefings and conferences with IIIM members and external partners, such as national judicial authorities and civil society actors, and perform other required duties.

Education: An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in criminology, law, Middle Eastern studies, conflict/security studies, international relations, human rights, criminal law, political/social science, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may substitute for the advanced degree.

Work experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible work experience in information analysis within the context of criminal investigations, international humanitarian law, human rights, or concerning the Middle East or North Africa region is required. Experience using analytical software is desirable, as is prior analytical experience related to the Syrian conflict or with national/international accountability institutions.

Skills: Demonstrated analytical skills, ability to work in a high-tech environment, familiarity with research methodologies and sources (including digital), effective communication (written and verbal), and strong teamwork capabilities are essential. Proficiency in English and Arabic is required.
