We are currently supporting a highly established international technology and engineering organisation in the Basel with a key senior leadership hire.

We are looking for a Head of Digital Engineering & Technology to take responsibility for the technical direction of a sizeable digital engineering organisation developing sophisticated connected solutions for industrial environments.

This is a role for someone who enjoys operating at the intersection of people leadership, technology strategy and software architecture, senior enough to set direction, but still close enough to engineering to understand the technology and challenge important decisions.

Your Leadership Scope

You will oversee 3 Team Leaders comprising of approximately 25 internal specialists.

Rather than managing one individual development team, you will provide direction across several technical areas and help bring different teams, platforms and products together around a common technology vision.

You will work closely with experienced Engineering Leaders, Architects, Product stakeholders and senior management across an international organisation.

What You will Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing technical direction across multiple engineering teams and technology domains
• Leading, supporting and developing 3 Team Leaders
• Shaping future architecture, technology choices and engineering priorities
• Turning longer-term technology objectives into clear and achievable roadmaps
• Coordinating dependencies and technical decisions across products and teams
• Helping determine where investment and engineering capacity will create the greatest impact
• Driving greater reuse, standardisation and automation across the engineering organisation
• Supporting the adoption of AI within both digital products and software engineering
• Ensuring new technologies are introduced with the right level of security, quality and governance
• Challenging architectural decisions and helping teams navigate complex technical trade-offs
• Working with stakeholders across engineering, product and business functions
• Building an engineering environment that encourages technical excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement

What Are We Looking For?

We are interested in experienced technology leaders who combine strong technical foundations with proven leadership across multiple teams.

You should bring:

• Significant experience within software engineering, architecture, platform engineering or a comparable technical environment
• Experience leading multiple teams and/or other technical leaders
• Strong understanding of modern software and distributed system architectures
• Solid knowledge of Cloud and cloud-native technologies
• Experience with IoT, Edge, connected products or complex distributed systems
• The ability to evaluate architecture and technology decisions at a senior level
• Experience translating technical strategy into practical engineering priorities and roadmaps
• Understanding of scalability, security, resilience, identity and observability
• An interest in the practical application of AI and AI-assisted software development
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• The ability to balance innovation with commercial realities and long-term maintainability

You don't need to be writing production code every day, but you should have the technical credibility to engage with experienced Architects, Engineers and Team Leaders at a meaningful level.

Languages

Professional English is required.

A good command of German.
