Job summary

ETH Zürich's gta Institute invites three doctoral candidates for the ERC project “Co-opolis: Another Architectural History of the European City (1890-1990). The positions are 100%, fixed-term and start March 2027, fully funded for four years.

Each candidate will study housing and civic infrastructures in France, Sweden, or Switzerland, examining welfare regimes and third-sector actors. Applicants should hold an MSc in a related humanities field, demonstrate archival knowledge, and work in

Qualifications

• MSc degree in Architecture, History of Art, Social History, or closely related humanities field.
• Previous publishing experience and archival/historical research are welcome.
• Working language is English; proficiency in the language relevant to the country of the chosen case study is required (French, German+French/Italian, or Swedish).

Responsibilities

• Investigate emergence, spatial characteristics, and endurance of urban projects in one country (France, Sweden, or Switzerland).
• Contribute to ERC project activities: workshops, seminars, articles, conferences, and project website.
• Engage with gta PhD programme courses and participate in teaching activities and research discussions.
