Job summary

GES School SA in Genf, 1294 Genthod, is seeking a full-time Learning Assistant for Year 2 to join the Primary team from 2 November 2026. The role is temporary, with 100% workload, and starts by agreement.

You will lead phonics sessions, support learning, and work closely with teachers to tailor support for identified groups of students, while upholding safeguarding policies.

Qualifications

• Experience of working in an English language school environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• A passion for working with children to develop their confidence and understanding within a school context.
• The ability to communicate effectively with pupils, parents and colleagues and to work as part of a collaborative team.
• Possess a valid, up-to-date, work permit for Switzerland.
• A commitment to the formal and professional safeguarding of all members of the school community.

Responsibilities

• Lead small group phonics sessions with pupils.

• Clarify and explain instructions; motivate and encourage pupils; assist with behaviour management.
• Help with teaching reading, writing, speaking, spelling, handwriting, maths and other subjects across the curriculum.
• Provide feedback to teachers to help children’s learning.
• Liaise with teachers about pupils with specific learning needs or concerns.
• Carry out administrative and supervisory duties efficiently and conscientiously.
• Act in accordance with school policies including safeguarding and child protection.

We are looking for enthusiastic and well qualified Learning Assistant to join the GES Primary team from 2nd November 2026

Key responsibilities of a Learning Assistant at GES:

• Lead small group phonics sessions with pupils
• Work closely with the class teacher to understand what is required for each lesson and what specific support is needed for identified groups of students.
• Support pupils with their learning by: clarifying and explaining instructions; ensuring children are able to use equipment and materials provided; motivating and encouraging; assisting with behaviour management; helping with the teaching of reading, writing, speaking, spelling, handwriting, presentation, mathematics and other subjects across the curriculum; helping children to concentrate on and complete work set; developing methods of promoting and reinforcing children’s confidence and self-esteem.
• Feedback to teachers any relevant information to help the children’s learning.
• Liaise with teachers about any children with specific learning needs or causing learning concerns.
• Carry out administrative and supervisory duties efficiently and conscientiously
• Act in accordance with the policies of the school and in particular with the principles laid down in the Staff Code of Conduct, ICT Acceptable Use Policy and Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy.
