Freelance Global Pricing Director – Barrington James

Introduction

Global Pricing is a critical capability within the client’s Global Value & Access (GVA) function, accountable for strategic and operational pricing across the company’s portfolio.

Strategic pricing encompasses the development of global pricing strategies and policies for the client’s new and in‑market products/indications, taking into account asset value, relevant comparators and competitive dynamics, payer assessments and price determination approaches, overall brand strategy, profitability objectives, and the global implications of local pricing decisions. Operational pricing governs the localisation and execution of global launch pricing strategies and oversees post‑launch price decisions. The Global Pricing Director plays a pivotal role in strategic and operational pricing, collaborating closely with affiliates and regional teams, the Global Head of Pricing, Core Asset Team Leaders, GVA’s Access Strategy and HEOR teams, and the Global Pricing Committee. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmaceutical pricing professional to apply their expertise in global pricing strategy and management, with extensive interaction across global teams, affiliates, and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop global pricing strategies and policies for launch products and lifecycle management indications, aligned with brand strategy and access objectives.
  • Partner with affiliates and regions to localise global pricing strategies; guide the development of robust country price requests and business cases, ensuring adherence to pricing policies and governance.
  • Evaluate and summarise affiliate launch price proposals and post‑launch price change requests; coordinate the Global Pricing Committee (GPC) and ensure timely, well‑documented decisions.
  • Conduct international reference pricing (IRP) analyses, impact assessments, and launch sequence optimisation to minimise IRP exposure and protect price corridors.
  • Advise affiliates on tender pricing strategies.
  • Provide pricing assumptions and scenarios to support business development evaluations, HEOR deliverables (e.g., cost‑effectiveness or budget impact models), and revenue forecasts.
  • Lead strategic pricing initiatives and programmes or act as deputy to the Global Head of Pricing on designated projects.
  • Work effectively with the client’s pricing governance and analytics systems/tools; ensure data integrity and accurate use by local teams, and deliver training and best‑practice guidance.
  • Commission or contribute to HTA/pricing research with external vendors to inform global strategies; perform analogue/benchmark analyses across therapy areas and markets.
  • Build and maintain price reporting dashboards for key brands; deliver ad‑hoc analyses and insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Represent Global Pricing and GVA in cross‑functional projects and forums.
Qualifications
  • Education
    • Degree in life sciences, economics, business, or finance (advanced degree such as MSc/MBA/PhD preferred).

    • Proven track record of developing and implementing global pricing strategies across developed and emerging markets.
    • Pronounced technical pricing expertise and experience with global pricing governance, processes, and systems.
    • Strong understanding of pricing and reimbursement environments in key pharmaceutical markets.
  • Skills and Competencies
    • Self‑starter with a strategic and analytical mindset; motivated to learn and contribute hands‑on.
    • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
