Job summary

ETH Zurich is seeking an early-career staff member to own the physical robot for a field-robotics project, shaping the structure, mechanisms, sealing and mounts from concept to build-ready parts. You will work at the seams with electronics and software, ensuring robust assemblies for outdoor tests and field campaigns in challenging water environments.

The role emphasizes hands-on hardware development, rapid iteration, and documentation so future team members can move faster.

Qualifications

• Hands-on hardware experience demonstrating concept-to-build cycles.
• Background in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics or equivalent practical engineering.
• Evidence taking hardware from concept to tested, buildable objects.
• Hands-on work on bench and outdoors including failure diagnosis and iteration.

Responsibilities

• Own the physical robot: structure, mechanisms, enclosures, mounts and the path from idea to a part that can be built again.
• Design with manufacture, assembly, sealing and service in mind; prove with prototypes, fixtures and tests outdoors.
