Position Summary

Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery is seeking an EMEA Regional Senior Medical Director to provide strategic Medical Affairs leadership across the Surgery and Mentor franchises in EMEA, with additional leadership for the Robotics & Digital portfolio across EMEA, LATAM, and APAC.

This highly visible role connects global strategy with regional execution across multiple geographies and business platforms. The Senior Medical Director leads regional medical strategy, evidence generation, scientific exchange, medical governance, and product lifecycle support, while serving as a senior medical voice with internal and external stakeholders. Working closely with global and regional leaders, this role informs portfolio, business and innovation decisions, and advances patient outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity, ethics and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
EMEA Medical Affairs Leadership
  • Develop and execute the EMEA Medical Affairs strategy for Surgery and Mentor, aligned with global Medical Affairs strategy, business priorities, and product lifecycle needs.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the EMEA Medical Affairs organization, including talent development, capability building, and resource prioritization
  • Serve as the senior medical leader for the Surgery and Mentor portfolios in EMEA, providing scientific and clinical leadership across the portfolio.
  • Identify regional evidence needs and partner with Global Medical Affairs and Clinical Affairs to shape evidence-generation priorities and execute regional studies and contribute to global evidence plans.
  • Provide medical leadership across product lifecycle management, innovation, and new product introduction, partnering with Commercial, R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Safety, and Market Access.
  • Lead regional medical governance and ensure activities meet applicable regulatory, ethical, healthcare compliance, and company standards.
  • Provide external scientific leadership across EMEA, building strategic relationships with healthcare professionals, scientific leaders, professional societies, and academic institutions to advance scientific exchange and generate actionable medical insights.
  • Translate regional medical insights into recommendations that inform EMEA business priorities and global Medical Affairs strategy.
Robotics & Digital Medical Affairs Leadership
  • Provide Medical Affairs leadership for the Robotics & Digital portfolio across EMEA, LATAM, and APAC, translating global strategy into coordinated regional priorities and execution while ensuring consistent medical governance and lifecycle support.
  • Partner with regional Medical Affairs leaders and the Global Robotics & Digital platform teams to identify evidence needs, scientific priorities, and market-specific opportunities.
  • Synthesize medical and scientific insights across EMEA, LATAM, and APAC to inform global Robotics & Digital strategy, evidence generation, and innovation priorities.
Qualifications

  • Strong scientific and clinical expertise, including clinical research, evidence generation, and critical evaluation of scientific data.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate scientific and medical insights into strategic business and portfolio recommendations.
  • Experience providing medical leadership across innovation, product introduction, and lifecyle management.
  • Strong understanding of medical governance, healthcare compliance, safety, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to engage healthcare professionals, scientific leaders, professional societies, and senior internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize Medical Affairs resources against strategic priorities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 30%.
Preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, or related MedTech function.
  • Medical Device or MedTech industry experience, preferably within surgery.
  • Experience supporting surgical, robotic, digital, or interventional technologies.
  • Experience leading Regional Medical Affairs organizations across multiple countries or geographies.
  • Experience supporting business development, acquisitions, licensing, or external innovation.
  • MBA or other advanced business qualifications.
